Goof of the Month Article

Yeah, it's not exactly about our HHRs, but it does apply to a point.

Goof of the Month: Engine Problem or User Error?

Moral of the story: Check your oil level periodically - this is not an option, it is mandatory if you care about your HHR.

My 1984 Ford Sierra (completely ordinary car) had sensors and warning lights for oil level and windshield washer fluid level. I have never come across that again since. Could save a lot of trouble...

Why are the cars burning oil that quickly on a newer vehicle and just how long are these people going without oil changes? Shouldn't there be an oil light or do these newer cars use a self diagnostic system to shut down before oil pressure is affected.

That Dart engine is very similar to the HHR Ecotec, like the VVT system, very sensitive to oil pressure and level.
Most of us good old boys are used to checking the oil every fill up, we did need a light to tell us anything. However one did light up for no or low oil pressure .

What ? You've got to check the oil level ?
The car companies built sealed transmissions with no dipsticks, so I guess some owners just figure that the engine oil doesn't need to be checked either.

Makes sense. Mine even functions without a battery. I looked under the hood and, nope ... no battery to be seen! Technology is cool.
