Great Dane dog fit ?

We're considering an HHR SS and one of the reasons is our Great Dane. He's quite large and weighs about 175 lbs. It's a struggle for two of us to get him into our Tahoe. A ramp didn't work. He wouldn't be able to stand up in the HHR but the lower height would really help.

Anyone hauling around their large dogs with an HHR ? We might just have to take him to the dealer to know for sure, but he might get 'stage fright' with the attention.

Not sure, but I think he might be able to stand up, but my overweight Border Collie is no Great Dane.

One thing to think about, although many on this site don’t agree, it has been my experience with a non-SS that almost any load towards the back lowers the rear and subsequently rises the headlights resulting in much high beam flashing from on coming traffic on two lane roads. You might have to get the headlights adjusted to reflect the new load. Other then that, great car.

My Greyhound fits great, and she's pretty tall. She loves to stand most of the time. DO NOT get the sunroof if you are gonna have the rear seat folded and let her stand in that area though, cause the sunroof reduces headroom in both seating areas by at least 3 inches, if not a bit more.
PS, its alot lower at the back for her to get in compared to the Tahoe. That was our previous dog hauler.

Ever think about trading the Great Dane w/ the Tahoe? Maybe for a nice little economical chihuahua.

whichever car you decide on, you should at least look in to purchasing a cover of some sort for the top edge of the rear bumper. whoever owned my 06 HHR before me had a dog...sucker must have been bald by the time they traded it in judging by the amount of dog hair the dealer's detail dept. missed in the spare tire tray and under the back seat....anyway, apparently, the dog's nails were hand-sharpened so that they would scratch almost every inch of the rear bumper.

If not for yourself, do it for the next owner of your HHR...he/she will be glad you did

also keep in mind, the visibility in the HHR is something you'll have to get used to....throw Dino back there, and you'll be using your mirrors alot more than you're used to, because with a great dane back there, you'll pretty much be driving a "panel" if you know what I mean.

and yes...take the dog with you to the dealer...in case you people dont already know this...your Dog(s) own your car...you just drive it an pay for it...but it's theirs...

Size: 5.6 KB to the site!!! When I looked at my HHR the dealership allowed me to test it overnight. Maybe an option for you and would allow for a more comfortable fitment testing for your dog.

What do you need the car for at all? Just ride the dog! Sounds like he's got room for six...
