I believe we talked about this last year. Anyhow, here's a different picture angle that shows that smoking is bad for your health.

George I think it's using body spray to cover body orders.
Maybe the guy thought he could light a match like you do when passing gas. :stuffhittingfan:

I'm not even sure what body "orders" are. Anyhow, the title of the story does say:
"Chevrolet HHR Explodes After Man Used Body Spray And Lit Cigarette"
I'll stand by my relevant but humor infused comment.

Can you imagine the look on your insurance agents face when you explain this......:gnonespet:

When my Dad owned a restaurant, we usually had small propane bottles aboard when catering, depending on our food heating needs.
Just a thought.

Wow !!! Smoking is real bad.....

OldSwede 03-24-2019 02:12 PM

I believe that might be termed a "fuel-air explosion"...........

I believe you're right...

Wonder IF the leaking fuel lines or vapor return line might have something to do with it?

Did you read the linked article ?
Doubtful since it said body spray and a lit cigarette.

J W Davis 03-26-2019 08:40 AM

Yes, I read the article about the body spray. Just find it hard to believe that this was the only issue here.

sleeper 03-27-2019 10:16 PM

Hard to believe the guy survived...

solman98 03-28-2019 09:17 AM

Vapor explosions end about as fast as they start. I'm sure they guys ears were ringing for a while after.

Greybeard999 03-28-2019 12:04 PM

He may have lost some hair...

With the concussion/explosion that happened, I bet it did.

I can testify that this is easy to do.
I had a significantly stupid situation similar to this....

I'll shorten the story considerably.........I have a large business size paper shredder. It came time to empty the waste and I removed the container and bag to take out side. At the same time I noticed the shredding mechanism needed cleaning as well, so it was unplugged and taken out as well. Paper pieces were carefully removed from the shredder head, it's a "confetti" type so multiple sharp cutters. Noticing a lot of paper "fuzz" I decided to blow it out with compressed air. Being lazy, it's a big large shredder, I elected not to utilize my garage compressor. Instead I used canned air.....the type that's used on computers and such. Did a great job and took everything back into the house, assembled, dry lubed and plugged it in. Of course it would need testing. Went to shred a piece of scrap paper and it went BOOM. Apparently THE CANNED AIR PROPELLENT WAS COMBUSTABLE. Luckily there was about 15-20 minutes in between the air spraying and the start up. No injury, BUT I learned a lesson. I ARE DUMB.

You may laugh now and call me names!!

sleeper 03-28-2019 10:43 PM

Wow !!! Snoopy, that is pretty wild. Did you still have eyebrows ? That would freak me out .............

Snoopy 03-29-2019 01:31 PM

Yeah, Sleeper, luckily I wasn't over the top of the shredder. No damage to me or the shredder.

Cat Man HHR 03-29-2019 02:10 PM

Did something similar with a garbage burn barrel (55 gal). Thru a cap full of gasolene in it and forgot the matches. "i'll be right back" I said. Came back thru the lit match in and Boom, garbage all over the place. Ah when your young and stupid. :yikes:

sleeper 03-29-2019 10:05 PM

Snoopy- Very lucky you weren't over the top of the shredder.. That could have got ugly quick..

Cat Man- That pretty intense. Bet that was a mess..

Ok, my turn, as a kid one winter our gas furnace (I believe) thermocouple went bad. Which would cause the pilot light to go out. I watched my Dad light it a few times, as the part had to be ordered. It went out before Dad got home & being the oldest, I figured I could light it.. What I didn't know was when you hold down this part you better be ready with a match.
I was not ready & when I put the match near the pilot, I remember smelling the natural gas, (BOOM) next thing I knew, I had no eye brows, face fuzz, or the front of my hair,... My Dad was less than impressed..

Oldblue 03-30-2019 10:59 AM

Not the fun method to having a blast!

sleeper 03-30-2019 07:49 PM

No not at all, I forgot to mention my eye lashes were gone as well...
