HHR-SS No Go!

Guess I'll be experiencing my first "Roadside Assistance" The car is only clicking and flashing lights at me when I turn the key. Tried Jump Starting it, nothing.
Anyone ever experienced this?

Possibly a bad key. Have you tried the spare? The key has a resistor or something like that in it as a theft-deterrent. If it malfunctions, the car will not start.

OK, so I read the owner's manual on how to jump start this vehicle and it didn't work. The Tow Truck driver said that you need a better ground than the strut tower bolt and to use the engine (like my dad taught me, duh)
Guess that's what I get for reading the owner's manual.

Car started right up and I drove her around a bit to charge up the battery. We'll see if she starts tomorrow as well...

Read your post to late in the day, been their done that. Don't leave ANY thing no matter how small plugged in to you SS for extended periods if you don't plan to drive it much. These batteries are no comparison to other cars I have driven, unless I have a junk one.

So I've noticed. Used to keep the radar detector plugged in all winter on my firebird with no issue, this thing goes dead in a week!?! I only drive it once or twice a week now and until I find snow tires and rims, maybe not at all.

My SS died at the tint shop. Got a message on my cell from my KARR alarm telling me my battery had been cut. Got over there and said WTF!, they said WTF!, your car tells you that? lol My son had left the dome lights above him in the back on and the tinter left the key in the ON position so he could roll the windows up and down, and apparently in an hour and a halves time the battery was dead! I thought these things had some kind of run-down protection to keep enough of a charge to start it? I meant to ask about this before but since this came up it reminded me! lol

I had the same problem with my 2006 even with a brand new battery.

I towed it behind our RV which requires you leave the key in the accessory position. Nothing was on. I even had a 'valet' key made so it didn't activate anything with the 'smart' key.

Less than two hours down the road we stopped to refuel the motorhome, and went to check on the HHR. Battery dead as a doornail.

So called my daughter to drive to the truck stop (lucky we were only 30 minutes from home) to bring my jumper cables to jump start via the underhood connection... as I couldn't open up the rear gate since it only unlocks when you have battery power. (I since found out there is a plug on the rear gate to open the open it from the inside, but don't know if I would enjoy having to go to that much trouble just to open up the rear compartment to actually get to the mini-battery).

So after much work on trying to get a good connection to the little positive post and the negative on a strut bolt, finally got it to start.

The wierd thing by the time my wife drove it home... the battery was fully charged. I hooked it up to my battery charger... and it didn't need anything. So I suspect the battery wasn't totally dead, it was just below the minimum voltage threshold.

I really don't know what drained the battery. Again, NOTHING was on. I spoke to my chevy dealer service manager... and he didn't have a clue.

I haven't put the towbar on my 2008 yet, but I expect to have the same problem.

Although I can't speak for the SS, my 06' 2LT was not moved in a little over a week and I had my GPS plugged in (little blue light on from the service cord). Car started right up today.
