HHR Trade In Values

I visited a dealer today and found a great deal on a Saturn Vue Hybrid. A hybrid is the only vehicle i would trade the HHR in for. The deal was almost complete when I was offered only $8700 for my '06 1LT with 29K miles in mint condition. What a crock! The dealer tells me the rental companies have flooded the market with used HHRs and they can't even unload them wholesale. I confirmed online that was the blue book trade in value. Of course, the retail value was $13,800, the same amount NADA shows.

The Saturn Vue was an 2008 and the dealer wanted to give $2500 off. That doesn't seem nearly enough for a year old car. I know it's new but they were offering the same discount on 2009 vehicles.

It appears to me the dealers don't really want to sell cars or the manufacturesr are not giving them the tools to do so.

Saturn has always had that "no haggle" policy from the start. They want to sell cars, they just don't want yours in return. Just another one they have to sell. I was at the dealership today. It was almost a ghost town. Did give me an opportunity to check out the over 2 dozen new HHR's they had. All types, from LS, to SS, full Panels and AA5's. All of them had rusty rotors, could twll they hadn't been moved in a while.

When I traded my 08 HHR LT for my 08 Equinox local dealers in my area wouldn't even consider the Kelly BlueBook/Edmunds/NADA trade in prices, only the Manheim Auction price.

Bad time to sell, good time to buy!!!

Sandy; It's been like that here in central Florida since the HHRs have been out, [ rental companies have flooded the market ] every car lot has a HHR or two on the lot. The big rentals turn them back to GM and GM puts them at a GM only wholesale lot in Sanford or Orlando to sell. I have looked at a lot of them & ran the Vin's. Most come back as Rentals. Hard to sell when there is a lot out there..... No luck on a trade of a new HHR

I be careful buying a saturn as they might not be around much longer with all the trouble Gm is in. You would be in worst shape than you are now. I bought a 06 lt2 loaded with every thing about 6 mo ago for a little ovver 10,000 from a wholesaler in texas

Bet your 2.2 HHR gets the same if not better mpg than the Vue Hybird which the EPA only gives as 25 city 32 hwy mpg.

Not to long ago I got the itch. Went in to Saturn of Champaign County here in Illinois because they had my dream car - a 2006 Jeep Wrangler. I love Jeeps (sorry guys) way more than anything. They offered me 13,500 on trade (for a 6 month old car with 3000 miles on it.) fast forward to September. They offer me 10,500 on my car - say that it would be worth more if it was an auto. I am looking to trade it on an Astra. The Wrangler is still there - mind you. F**k it, I'll keep the HHR.

Sandy.....

My wife ordered an 09' Saturn Vue Redline, in the last week of November. It was built the first week of December and will be delivered to the dealer tomorrow, Sunday. She will pick it up probably tuesday or wednesday.

While at the dealer, they tried to convince her to purchase an 08'. The dealer allowed almost $1800 off the price (which, I'm told, GM is rebated directly to the dealer in way of floor plan reduction) plus the GM rebate, which I believe was $1500.

She got the 09' for almost the same price....about $500 more.

And I agree with an08HHR's last post. Mileage isn't what it should/could be in the GM hybrids.

Shouldn't be a problem. The Chevy Equinox is the same car underneath. It also is similar to the GMC Terrain and some Suzuki SUV...all based on the Theta platform. The hybrid model has the 2.4 Ecotech engine.

That's exactly what I told them. The Vue would be much easier for me to get in and out of with my arthritic knees and I found no blind spot like on the front side window of the HHR. The interior was much more user friendly. It drove beautifully and my many years of drive a stick and using the clutch to slow at stop lights made the hybrid a perfect match for me.

However, I did find out that they will offer more hybrids next year. The more there are available, the better the market will be for us consumers.
