How to connect a new key fob???

How to connect a new key fob???

I bought a new key fob for my 06 hhr, how can I program it without the dealer?

You can't. It requires a GM Tech 2 tool.

I went to a local lock smith, 2 months I bought a new fob on line had it progamed $43.00 it lasted 2 months warranty sent me a new fob, had prog. yesterday $30.00 is working great.

In other words: Check with locksmith, they may have the tool Or, go to a GM dealer.

The job REQUIRES a special expensive tool, there is no cheap shortcut.

My locksmith told me the unit to plug in to the OBD port cost $35,00.00 ???

I think you misplaced the ,. $3,500 would probably be more like it. But you can find them on ebay for less.

If the 2007 HHR I bought a few weeks ago did not already have remote start and door locks, I would buy a Viper alarm such as I had in my F350. It had those things and the alarm/remotes could be configured with a procedure that Viper has, no dealer required. It was also tied in so it could tell what door/hood/etc was opened or tried to be opened AND it had a disabling feature that would kill power to the brain if someone tried to steal the truck. So far the HHR factory units seem to be okay although I had to resolder two connections in the spare remote.
