How long will Stock Battery last?
I have a 2006 2LT w/49,000 miles on it. How long before I should replace bat?
Old days batteries lasted over 5 years seems like the newer last just three to four years. It seems strong but wife is afraid it will die on her anytime.
Opinions?

Extreme cold or extreme hot climates shorten the battery's expected life. I would say that you are on borrowed time. The added months that you might give up by replacing the battery now are worth the piece of mind. Consider an Interstate battery, they have a 28 month free replacement warranty and a 84 month prorated warranty. I have sold them where I work for years and they are pain free.

I'm not trying to be argumentive here but replacing batteries does not fall into (If it ain't broke, don't fix it) category. It sort of falls into the category with belts and hoses. Sort of being ahead of the curve.
However, I respectively look forward to reading your posts!

Not sure about my HHR because I have only owned it for a little under 1.5 years, but my 2002 S10 4x4 Pickup still has the original Delco battery in it. This vehicle's battery has the insulator around the sides and top of the battery, subjecting it to much less rapid temperature swings (rate of temp change has severe effects upon cell plate expansion). Because the HHR has the battery inside of the cabin, I would predict that it would last better than most, provided that it's not abused from deep discharge cycles.
FYI, optimal battery temp for longevity is 77F. I've seen batteries last for 8 years, but in non-automotive environments. I work with batteries every day, but configured in a series of battery "strings" to the tune of 384VDC.

I just changed the battery in my 2006 LT with 45K miles. This is my wife's HHR. We live in Tucson and I thought five summers with 35+ days over 100 degrees had to be having an affect. That said, I was not having any issues and the 4.5 year old battery looked like brand new when I took it out.
I think not having it under the hood really adds to the life and performance.
For me, the change was "peace of mind" that it would not soon die.
