How many miles did your struts last

Update: 7/28/15 ............ Left Front strut replaced
The dung dung when turning the wheel from lock to lock is gone.!
thats the good news. Been having the wheel shimy once i got to
certain speed. Now the speed is lower ~ guessing next step is the
intermediate steering shaft.

Just wondering how many miles ya'll had
on yours before you replaced them.

I have 122,xxx showing on the odo and still have the stock struts.
ride is still good just got the clunk sound when turning the steering
wheel. Seems its not so much the struts as the bushing at the top.

thoughts and idea's welcome ~ ~

Don't plan on more than 70,000 miles. It's not the "ride" anymore, the geometry has changed radically. The throw of the suspension is only a few inches, "your father's Olds" had a throw in excess of 6 inches.

You notice bad struts and shocks more in braking now than in ride quality. Put new struts and shocks on and you will be amazed at the difference in braking!

I concur, Monre quick struts if you want a quick and easy no spring compressors, or KYB struts and Monroe top bearing plates, if you want to use your old OEM springs, or use lowering springs

Ride too is affected, though not as drastically as you might think. I had maybe 42000 on the clock when they both showed signs of leakage, though there was probably another 15K of towed miles behind our motorhome. Guess that worked out to be about average. Replaced both the struts and the rear shocks (also both leaking) as the same time, and yes there was a difference in both ride and braking, though it wasn't as dramatic a difference as you might expect, or at least as I expected. It was more subtle, like better stability at high speeds, which was quite noticeable.

sound

The sound you hear when turning is probably the intermediate steering shaft

I had about 65K miles when I had mine replaced. I noticed some handling issues. I got some KYB components.

Hmmm, I've got 168,000+ miles now and still the original struts. They're working fine.
