Not really...some of the time I have owned the car, I worked at the same place where I lived and the grocery store was right across the street, so the car was only used on weekends to go to my boyfriends house or to visit my kids. Since then, everywhere I need to go is relatively and usually within a 20 mile radius or so. When you live in a city the size of Denver, it is rare that you have to travel much farther than that to find what you are looking for. Even all the driving I did to take the photos at Red Rocks, Lookout Mountain and the others only put about 100 miles on the car. You would be very surprised how little you have to travel to see all the great sites of the Denver Metro area and the Rocky Mountains. Come on down one of these days and I'll be happy to show you the town.

The last 2 vehicles I owned before the HHR endured the same thing. I owned my Toyota pickup for almost 8 years and put less than 15,000 miles on it during that time. Same thing with my Honda Prelude, which I still own that only logged about 3000 miles in 2 years. So, as you can see, I am driving the HHR more than the others in the past...and loving every minute of it.

but why in the hell would you change it so soon? What a waste and what a way to pour more $$ into the oil company pockets.

But hey, your car your choice.

Now back to our regularly scheduled program, I mean thread.
i changed mine at 1000 miles, here is why. 1000 miles is enough of a break in period for the engine. I checked the filter to see if there was any metal shavings, large amounts means that something is wrong. I changed mine to Mobil 1 full syn, and have had no problems with the engine. I have done this with all of my new cars, and have never had any engine problems. It is more of a piece of mind for me and others to get the old dyno oil out and synthetic in.

I did the same thing with mine at 1200 miles for exactly the same reasons as jaydogg. Out with the factory oil and in with Mobil 1 synthetic.

You sound like us Deb, We bought our '96 Altima back in June of 1998,and it had just turned 30,000 Miles. We've only put 27,500 more miles on it in the last 8 years. (Probably less than a thousand in the past year!)
I just keep it around in case I have to go to the store (Or the Doctor!) while my Wife is at work.
