How To Remove Roof Cross Rails

Hi all,

I have searched but have not found what I need. A friend with a business-owned HHR Panel is getting rid of the HHR and said I could have the stock cross rails for the roof rack.

So I can go prepared if I need any tools can you advise how to remove the roof cross rails? Thanks!

If they are factory cross rail no tools should be required to remove them.

There is a small t-handle type bolt just to the rear of the bar mounting. One on each side of the bar. Loosen those and the bar will slide back and forth. You can then remove the bar at an angle.

You should be able to loosen the t handles by hand unless there are rusted in place so slip joint pliers would be the only thing I would take with me.

I saw those and was able to loosen a couple, I just wasn't sure the bars could be angled enough to be removed. Thanks, I will try that today.

Well, the actual way to remove the bar is remove the t-handled screws, eight total for both bars. There is a slider this t-handle screw attaches to. You rotate the slider ninety degrees and pull those out. The bar has a very minor interference fit with the cross rail channel so all you have to do is push, or pull, the bar and lift it out of the channel. Very easy to do.

I'll bet you looked in the Owners Manual.

You cheated.

I was wrong there are 8 t handle fasteners. I was going by memory because my 07 wasn't home today. Sorry about that my memory failed me.

It sucks getting old.
