Hub removal tool

I know the tool is made to remove a stuck on front hub on our cars

But what if you buy a steel Harbor Freight large pipe wrench and use its jaws to clamp onto the hub flange , put a long strong thick wall pipe (black pipe or fence pipe ) on the handel and hit that with a 5 lb. hammer ?
Maybe even rectangular tubing ?
Just a thought thrown out here.

I have always been able to use a gear puller, a PB blaster soak, and a 3 lb. mini sledge "persuader". Soak it, put it under tension with the puller, and pop it as needed with the bfh. It might take some time, but it works.

The rear hubs on HHR just fall off, no need for the tool. It's the fronts that offer resistance.

Air chisel with a blunt tip helps loosen things up after the soak with penetrating oil.

then refer to donbrew's 3 rules. If that doesn't work...

... get a bigger hammer and another brew!

wear safety googles face mask optional

changed the hub a couple of weeks ago ...
nail puller turned out to be useful
however, the hub was not overly jammed

My vintage axle puller works great on hubs. It has a slide hammer on it. No fuss, no muss.

I’ve had the axle seized to the hub and hub seized to the knuckle before. Had to replace everything lol
