I know when mine was in the shop, I rented an HHR from Enterprise. I got lucky there were just checking it in as I was doing up the paperwork, so they let me take it.
They guy returning was already planning a to rent it again in about a month.

I rented from an Avis, pretty good rate too 37or 27 a day depending on when you rented or how long.

I also called Enterprise. I got a big run around about they don't rent specific vehicles only a "class" of vehical and if I wanted an HHR it was going to be this really big deal. They said they would keep an eye out and call. 15 minutes later I get a call back and it's Enterprise Used Car Sales calling trying to sell me a used one. I was kinda pissed about that. I just wanted to rent one.

Avis was no problem. It was at the local mall next to Sears automotive center. Didn't even have reservations. Drove up, went inside and said give me that hhr out front! ;-)

Enterprise seems to lean more towards Chrysler but the have a mixed bag a lot

PS I think I'm just gonna make a rez every day and take a drive to the airport and take a look see and maybe get lucky

Hey... you're right... the three rental lots I pass by the airport are Dollar, Thrifty and Enterprise... Guess that explains why there were lots of Chrysler and Dodge rentals...

Hey Wilson...

Things are going well here in old St. Lou... Glad to hear you still make it round this town on occasions...

What part of St. Louis were you from and when did you move out of town? I'm in the NW part of town near Bridgeton and Maryland Heights... born and raise here and no plans on moving... love this town... but quite a long drive to catch waves...

Hang Loose...

I would probably do that also if I could just find an HHR to rent! I may just bide my time with Alamo as it comes out to like 16-17 dollars a day.

Enterprise to me is the bottom of the food chain as far as rental cars go. Most of the agents remind me of used car salesmen or the young punks who work at cell phone kiosks at malls yelling at you when you walk by asking you what kind of cell phone you have. Never give them the time of day. Even when I was going through the garage looking for an HHR they looked like a bunch of huddled rats waiting. I think they get most of their money from dealers putting people in rental cars while their cars are being worked on anyways. So all that to say it doesn't surprise me in the slightest that you say they tried to sell you a used car when all you did was inquire about renting one.

I'll try again tonight at Alamo..oh and fwiw Alamo said the same thing about renting only a "class" of car. When I asked them on the phone how many HHRs they had to rent she said about 5...when I asked how many were in the lot now she said we only rent a class not a car..."I understand that and I just want to know if you have HHRs in the lot now as I will come get one" "we can't reserve a car only a class" "I know that but can't you tell me if one is available" "WE only rent a class not a car" So if I come up there and I see an HHR can I rent it?" "We cannot guarantee that you will be able to as we don't hold cars"

Holy cow after 5 minutes of this I decided just to take my chances and make a res everyday and then check the garage before I go through with the reservation...I realize how they are trained but you think they could just say.."yeah we have some but I can't hold one for you, you'll have to see if there is one here when you get here" Cool, that's all I needed to know..I'm only 15 minutes form the airport so no biggy. Parking is free for the first 10 minutes so I can do a quick scan and then bug out if none to be had.

Maybe it is just an Ontario thing!

Don't dealers in the States let people take home a "demo" model over the weekend to try it out? Not that I bothered to do that... I just keep reading about having to rent a car to get more than 2 hours out of a test drive. I mean, isn't thi the reason that dealers HAVE demos!

As an example, when my Dad bought his Trailblazer the dealer let him drive one from North Bay back to Ottawa for the weekend. I guess they don't get too wound up having lots of k's on their demos!

Sorry no Auto Dealer in Tampa, FL would let you take one home for the night even, much less the weekend.
Long time ago in Texas they did, but not any more.

We went looking for our HHR on a Friday night. After the test drive and the initial were not sure yet, the dealer gave me the keys and said take it home with you for the weekend. I drove the HHR home and Chris drove the Crossfire. We knew by Saturday that we liked the car and made the trip back to the dealer to see what they could work up. Needless to say that night we had our new HHR.

Thanks Hillsdale - it's nice to know that "Trust" isn't dead yet!

I wonder how many more sales it translates into when the dealer actually trusts you to take the car out vs. watching you like a hawk.

I know I like being treated as a thief!

No doubt. And we lived in another County as well!!! I figure if they are not willing to at least give you the car overnight then their not wanting to sell one very bad!!!
