Leaking fuel line just ahead of gas tank. Is this common on HHRs?

Considering the proximity of the leak to the exhaust I'm surprised these don't have a reputation like the Pinto!!!

The reason they rust out is because of an insulated heat shield that "protects" the fuel line from the exhaust heat. This holds moisture in and snow and salt in the colder states. It also lets the leaking fuel drip straight down and away from the exhaust pipe. Remove the barrier and it won't rust but could cause a vapor lock. Best way to fix it is to use a fuel line that won't rust out.

I’ve had just the plastic fuel lines in the BlackSwan for 3 years, no vapour lock, no heat problems, they aren’t that close to the exhaust pipe.

Yeah Chevy really cheaped out on that. Probably wouldn't have added more than$4-5 per car to make it functional.

But then, the average consumer, if they knew, would say, "plastic fuel lines? No way, they need to be metal! "

Lotsa cars cheaped out on fuel and brake lines . It’s nothing new! My 1993 Pontiac Transsport had plastic fuel lines

There is an open case on the at the U.S. Nation Highway Transportation Safety Administration. Really easy to file a complaint with NHTSA. More owners should do this to improve the the chance of them doing something. Also, save your receipts. In case they ever take action, you could get a refund.
