Leaky hatchback
Leaky hatchback
I noticed today that my 2008 HHR-SS was wet in the far rear corner on the passenger side when I opened the hatch. Has anyone else experienced this and if so what is the fix if any? Did not see anything obvious, but it was raining at the time. Thanks for your help.... Wayne
But would the sunroof drains dump water into the cargo area, in a visible location? Unless there were a hole in the drain line itself, I would guess that the water would back up all the way to the sunroof? Is it a 1-piece hose or multiple pieces with couplers?
Same with the washer, I would expect a leak there to be contained inside the door(hatch), not visible as a puddle in the cargo area. Unless the leak was between the hatch and the body, right at the grommet area.
I would also look at the upper hatch seal itself, there may have been some leaves or other debris that got between the seal and the body. I might have suspected the seals at the tail/brake lights, but that also would leak into an area not visible.
Do you have a rear spoiler? Another potential leak.

His is a SS, so I would say it's still got the spoiler.
As far as the washer or drain tubing leaking. Others on this site have reported leaks from those. I remember one post where the owner discovered that a "tee" wasn't connected or such (think it was after some body or repair work had been done in that area.)

one day my tube of the rear window washer came off.
Dampness appeared in the bottom right corner. The fluid inside the back gate.
I had to remove the gate trim to attach the tube to its rightful place.
Symptom: The washer pump is running, but the water does not flow on the glass.

Leaky Hatchback
Thanks for all the responses. It has been raining the last few days in NY. So today I took another look and did find some debris underneath hatch seal. I cleaned it out and blew dry with my leaf blower. Then I put some black sealant around seal etc. Looked underneath car but could not locate any drain hoses etc. Will update if this cure fixes or not. Thanks, Wayne
2010 LT Cargo Area Water Leak
Did you solve your leaky hatch and how did you do it? PI posted a new thread today with the subject title. I have had water leaking from the left upper portion of the hatchback on my LT (no sunroof, windshield washer tubing eliminated as source of the leak). It happens after a hard rain or snow melt. The water pools in the third brakelight cavity and pours out onto cargo area carpet whenever turning left. I just reexamined the weathersteip and found no debris or obvious deformity, but if I pull the strip up I can feel a gap which I assume should be filled andvcd sealed by the weatherstrip when the hatch is closed. The third brakelight molding cover is in direct contact with the weatherstrip, so if water is making it over the strip it would easily enter the third brakelight molding. I figure I can either 1) replace the weatherstrip if I can find the part, or 2) remove the strip, apply silicone sealant to the metal rib to which the strip attaches and reattach it. The issue with 2) is that the space between the hatch and the strip itself is extremely tight and will be very difficult to do properly without removing the hatch itself.
