Follow up: I got the 5504 at AutoZone, and it seems to work fine. Only problem is that I can't attach the fuel door anchor to it. Oh well I drove many a car
with unattached gas caps and only lost a couple......

I can relate to there always being one "bad seed" in middle school. All schools try to eliminate weapons through different means. My kids kept getting flat tires on their bicycles. We later found out one of those "bad seeds" was puncturing them with the point from a protractor. There's nothing to prevent them from damaging property except some well-placed video cameras.

As for the locking gas cap, I was going to buy one for the minivan my son will take to college. Now there I would suspect siphoning. The car will be parked away from his dorm. Is it worth it or not?

Why mess with the cap, cut slice open the filler neck and be done with it. Plus that way you don't have to mess with the little flap for the unleaded hose. It also drains faster.

I've seen it happen.
