Look at the "auto Door Locks" thread, see Denny's post of 3/12 for short locks.

How much did you trim them?

I trimed mine almost flush while in the up position.

Well first you have to un-wind & remove the oem plastic knobs, Very Coarse thread. (rightee-tightee......Lefty loosee)

& in unlock position, trim the threaded stem, I trimmed mine to about level with door panel, Be careful not to bugger up the threads, or it will scrape out the plastic threads in the knobs.. Then wind them back on, Test & if need lower, tighten down more ( but gently)..

That's it..
& if you should bugger the threads, you could just use a glue for knob securement..

ck1951-

Take your time.. I had to wrap rubber around my lock knobs to grab them with pliers, to prevent any scarring.. They were pretty tight on there.

The custom knobs look great but I'm going cheap and simple on this.
Good one Sleeper.

I'm so glad someone else thought of this first. Probably the only thing that really bothers me about my HHR...I'll be performing this post haste. Stupid lock is exactly where I want to put my elbow! Will try to be careful not to "bugger" up per Sleeper's destructions
