Let's see, who is confused here. The HHR is built in Mexico, so you can call it a Central American built vehicle. V.W., Honda, Toyota and other "so called" foreign vehicles are built right here in the U.S. of A with some Mexican parts. So, you are taking pride in your Central American vehicle and not in any built in the U.S.A vehicles?

American Car

Let me set the record straight, it is more important to me that a car is an American car regardless of where it is built. Just because the HHR is assembled in Mexico does not make it a mexican car. Just because some Toyotas are built in the U.S. does not make it an American car.

Who owns Toyota?

Toyota is without a doubt a Japanese company. The designs are Japanese as well as the owners. The profits from the sales go to Japan.

Who owns Chevorlet?

Chevrolet is an American company building American designs. The profits stay in the U.S.

Any arguments there?

I agree American cars should be made in America by American hands. If an American car is made in Mexico, at least the profits stay in the U.S.

Thanks. I speak my mind concerning things I feel strongly about.

I have ALWAYS bought American cars. here's my list:

1970 Chevy Impala
1974 Plymouth Duster
1975 Firebird
1975 Olds Cutlass 442
1979 GMC Jimmy
1983 Chevy Monte Carlo
1988 Chevy Beretta
1996 Olds Achieva
2009 Chevy HHR

I was speaking to my mechanic before I bought the HHR. At the time I was considering a Saab because I couldn't find any American cars that fit my criteria (Must fit. I'm 6'3" and 250lb. and have a manual transmission). He told me he wouldn't buy a Japanese car because his dad fought in the Pacific in WW2. He wouldn't buy a car from a country his father fought against. I didn't blame him. I always looked at foreign cars as foreign countries trying to steal our business.

Since it was a POS and just for the Winter, you are forgiven.

My mom had an 83 Malibu. That thing was a POS. The V6 in that couldn't get out of it's own way. It would diesel and knock and ping.

Then my mom got a 1994 Lumina. She still has it. 3.1 V6. The thing still looks like she drove it off the showroom floor. It sleeps in a heated garage and she only drives it to church, to the store and out to lunch.

In 1993, I bought a 1991 Cavalier RS with the 3.1 V6. The car had 31 000 Km when I bought it. It was assembled in Mexico. I traded it in for my Cobalt in 2007. I drove a zillion Kms with the Cav, and the only parts that needed replacing were 4 sets of brakes, and 5 mufflers (+ 1 catalytic conv). This was the best car I ever had, and would have kept it if I had more parking space.

Dedicated workers are doing a fine job, and they build good cars, wherever they come from. The 2009 Camaro is assembled here, in Canada.
