Maintenance on 2006 hhr

I have 20k miles on my hhr. I did not do the 15k service. (They said I needed new fuel filter and fuel injectors cleaned) I always do the oil every 3k and air filter change every12k. The question I have is …. Why would I need to do the 15k or thirty maintenance if all data and my regular mechanic say none is need till 50K (i.e. the transmission fluid changed) is this so the dealer can make money?

If you are already ignoring GM's recomended intervals for oil changes, why worry about this?

I do not understand Mike. I do the oil change every 3k. That is what my manual says. But alldata does not say anything about 15k or 30k service. And from what I understand alldata is the factory recomendations for service.

Please show me where in the HHR manual says every 3000 miles. I would bet that like my 2 2006's it say to follow the Oil Life Indicator in the DIC.
OIL LIFE
Press the information button until OIL LIFE is displayed.
The engine oil life system shows an estimate of the
oil’s remaining useful life. It will show 100% when the
system is reset after an oil change. It will alert you
to change your oil on a schedule consistent with your
driving conditions.
In addition to the engine oil life system monitoring the
oil life, additional maintenance is recommended in
the Maintenance Schedule in this manual. See Engine
Oil on page 5-13 and Scheduled Maintenance on
page 6-4.
Always reset the engine oil life system after an oil
change. See “How to Reset the Engine Oil Life System”
under Engine Oil Life System on page 5-16.
Engine Oil
Checking Engine Oil
It is a good idea to check your engine oil every time you
get fuel. In order to get an accurate reading, the oil
must be warm and the vehicle must be on level ground.
The engine oil dipstick handle is a yellow loop.
See Engine Compartment Overview on page 5-12
for the location of the engine oil dipstick.
1. Turn off the engine and give the oil several minutes
to drain back into the oil pan. If you do not do this,
the oil dipstick might not show the actual level.
2. Pull the dipstick and clean it with a paper towel or
cloth, then push it back in all the way. Remove it
again, keeping the tip down and check the level.
Engine Oil Life System
When to Change Engine Oil
Your vehicle has a computer system that lets you know
when to change the engine oil and filter. This is based on
engine revolutions and engine temperature, and not on
mileage. Based on driving conditions, the mileage at
which an oil change will be indicated can vary
considerably. For the oil life system to work properly,
you must reset the system every time the oil is changed.
When the system has calculated that oil life has been
diminished, it will indicate that an oil change is
necessary. A CHANGE OIL SOON message in the
Driver Information Center (DIC) will come on. See
DIC Warnings and Messages on page 3-42. Change
your oil as soon as possible within the next 600 miles
(1 000 km). It is possible that, if you are driving
under the best conditions, the oil life system may not
indicate that an oil change is necessary for over a year.
However, your engine oil and filter must be changed
at least once a year and at this time the system must be
reset. Your dealer has GM-trained service people who
will perform this work using genuine GM parts and reset
the system. It is also important to check your oil
regularly and keep it at the proper level.
If the system is ever reset accidentally, you must
change your oil at 3,000 miles (5 000 km) since your
last oil change. Remember to reset the oil life system
whenever the oil is changed.
Scheduled Maintenance
When the CHANGE OIL SOON message comes on,
it means that service is required for your vehicle.
Have your vehicle serviced as soon as possible within
the next 600 miles (1 000 km). It is possible that, if
you are driving under the best conditions, the engine
oil life system may not indicate that vehicle service
is necessary for over a year. However, your engine
oil and filter must be changed at least once a year
and at this time the system must be reset. Your
GM Goodwrench® dealer has GM-trained service
technicians who will perform this work using genuine
GM parts and reset the system.
If the engine oil life system is ever reset accidentally,
you must service your vehicle within 3,000 miles
(5 000 km) since your last service. Remember to reset
the oil life system whenever the oil is changed. See
Engine Oil Life System on page 5-16 for information on
the Engine Oil Life System and resetting the system.
When the CHANGE OIL SOON message appears,
certain services, checks, and inspections are required.
Required services are described in the following for
“Maintenance I” and “Maintenance II.” Generally,
it is recommended that your first service be
Maintenance I, your second service be Maintenance II,
and that you alternate Maintenance I and Maintenance II
thereafter. However, in some cases, Maintenance II
may be required more often.
Maintenance I — Use Maintenance I if the CHANGE
OIL SOON message comes on within 10 months
since the vehicle was purchased or Maintenance II
was performed.
Maintenance II — Use Maintenance II if the previous
service performed was Maintenance I. Always use
Maintenance II whenever the CHANGE OIL SOON
message comes on 10 months or more since the
last service or if the message has not come on at all
for one year.

However you will also find MANY threads, by using the search feature, to back up the schedule you use and many others.

What matters is what makes YOU feel safe.

To me though it makes no sense to change more frequently than GM requires oil to be changed and then to question your dealer wanting you to do other things more frequently too.

Follow the recommendations in the owners manual based on the type of driving that most closely matches your (normal or severe).

BTW, the HHR does not have a fuel filter. If you had of paid for that, it would have been interesting to see what you would've gotten.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Alldata run for service centers?

I would think that the manufacturers recomendations would be more accurate than an organization's that is set of for shops which get paid to work on your car.

GM doesn't get paid for service work/

Yes, but it's serviced by replacing the complete fuel pump. About $250
You change it on an as-needed basis. That's why a locking gas cap is a good idea
Keep your fuel clean !!

Thats crazy about the fuel filter. My local dealer said that is what is done at 15k. what about the 2 stage fuel injector cleaner? they said that needed done too. When I get info like this it makes me mad at the dealers....... Like they told me to do the lube and then I found out the hhr is sealed and self lubing... What should I beleive? alldata says just to rotate tires and do oil changes, air filter, cabin air filter, and 50k do a transmision fuild change... But the dealers say come in at 15k ,30k, 60k ,90k. and its lots of money everytime... I do not see the need for it. I need had details on the correct thing for my car.
