Maximum speed limit? speed limiter on HHR?

I bought a used HHR with 25000 miles. It was a rental car before. When i drive it on highway it goes upto 80 mph just fine. But after 80 mph speed doesnt go any faster even if i floor it. What do you think is the reason?

Sounds like a limiter to me.
I don't know the solution but there are some clever people here in this forum.

Welcome and congratulations on the ride!

Truth is, put it in neutral and have Mowgli pull it. He has an SS and he can pull you faster than 80 mph.

I believe, a long time ago, it was determined the 2.4 is limited to 105-108......if it is absolutely stock. Those that have a tune probably can attain a few MPH more if the
fuel limiter was raised.

Should be a few old threads on here regarding this.

Weird. I have a 1LT with a 2.4 Auto (completely stock) and I top out around 115. It will accelerate and just stop there.

My Parent's 2.2 Auto will top 100 also. (Never topped it out, though)

Maybe an artificial limiter from the rental company?

Being that HHR's are drive by wire, it's likely in the engine control software.

I thought most newer GM cars have a limiter set at 107? My mom's Impala was that way, G6 is that way (I think), and my Lumina is 107 as well. Have never tried the HHR, for personal reasons.

Ive personally had my 2.2 up to 110 and then I let off, Ive never felt/heard the limiter kick in. One thing I read, but havent tried yet, is if you put it down in I gear the limiter is dissengaged.
