Mirrors Fold back?

I just noticed that the outside mirrors can be folded in towards the door a little ways, but they bump into the door quickly. I have a truck that has mirrors that can be folded in all the way. I was curious as to why the HHR mirrors were designed foldable but not enough to collapse them parallel to the door. What's the point?

So you don't break your mirror off if you clip it on something.

LOL - that was my 100th post there.

Oh cap. Howdy came in right when I was typing that. OK, so it's to protect the mirror. I'll buy that.

I thought that was a 'break-away' feature that is saftey related on most cars now. I believe hood ornimants are the same way.

Just remember, the mirrors are NOT double jointed.
