Missing Milage

I have had my trusty 2007 HHR for 7 years, and about 4 years ago the first number on my odometer disappeared, I have to keep going to the same place for the oil change so that I don't have to keep explaining the situation. When I bought it it was fine then one day the first number just vanished. Has anyone else had this problem? Now the horn and the lights are all going wonky on me and its all just frustrating, I am struggling between fixing the horn and lights, because the lights are a wiring issue somehow and selling it I would have to sell it to a private owner because no reputable business would take it, I just put 4 new tires on it 2 months a go and all new speakers in it 2 years ago. So I am at a loss. Is my car doing a death march? or should I save it?

Welcome to the site, the light issue is more likely the battery going south, have your local parts palace do a load test on it.
these trucklets are pretty sturdy but the fuse box can loosen up and cause problems. As for the odometer number missing, perhaps a battery lobotomy would resolve that issue, which it’s going get if you have to change the battery!

Battery lobotomy:
Disconnect the negative battery cable at the back of the car.
Leave it off for 1/2 hour and hook it back up.
You will have to reset time and date on the radio.
Everything else will be fine with the car.
Except maybe your problems.

Not disagreeing with the battery thing, but that's not the issue with the missing mileage digit. That would be something else.

Agreed
It would have to be something like a burned out or malfunctioning LED in that 1st position.
If the OP could post up a picture of the odometer, then maybe we could see exactly what they're talking about. And include what the mileage was when bought and about what it should be now.
Not sure about the "have to go to the same place for the oil change" stuff. They WILL change your oil if asked to. They don't care about the mileage. Only the money they charge for the service.
Besides. Oil changes are usually done per the OLM (Oil Life Monitor). Is that not working also ?

Like turning 1 million miles?

Any scan tool could read the mileage stored in the BCM, so I wouldn't put any angst into that.
You can't fix "wonky". You can fix specific issues, usually easily.

My thoughts are the first digit on the left has several leds to light up as different numbers, 3 would require different lights from 7 for instance. If the BCM controls the odometer, perhaps it needs a wake up reset, aka battery lobotomy. I really need to do a how to for that one!

Or, clean and reseat the connector to the cluster. That's a lot of work.

is

This is what it looks like there should be a 2 or 3 in front.
So most ppl ask if my mileage is right and I explain that one number just dissapeared, most of the time they don't believe me, that's why I just go to the same oil change place.

Well you lost me with that picture. No digits are missing. It shows 495,487 miles.
Then you say there should be a 2 or 3 in front ? Or do you mean a 2 or 3 where that first 4 is ?
Putting a 2 or 3 in front would mean 2 or 3 MILLION miles.
(honestly, I doubt your car even has 495 thousand miles on it )

Maybe you could clear this up for us
