I am going to throw something out there... My wife called me one day saying she couldn't shift her car out of park. It just locked the shifter. Now... I do not know what he is talking about with this issue with the brain... You either have an issue with the ecm, bcm, tcm, or other modules...

Now if your symptom is that the car will NOT shift out of park and you want to get it to the shop accomplish that, you will have to take off the silver ring around the shifter console, carefully take a flashlight and a flat head screw driver, and look for the locking trigger that usually unlocks the shifter when you press on the break pedal, release the shifter, and shift the car into neutral. :/

There could be many reasons why this may be happening but if that is your issue and you have to move the car, then that is the way I did it.

IF that was the problem he could take it to a GM dealer for the extended shifter warranty.

It is pretty clear that the problem is THERE IS NO BATTERY IN THE CAR if there is no battery in the car the ignition and shifter are locked by solenoids.

His dealer shop thinks his BCM is bad, but they are just guessing because they are not competent enough to actually find out what the problem is. Unfortunately the description given of the problem is akin to "the car broke", which is of no value to the internet.

I don't believe this has gone on for 3 pages and BQS4 has not returned, except to clarify THERE IS NO BATTERY IN THE CAR. I think the bozoship told him there was some danger involved if he left the battery in the car.

Wouldn't really make sense to me either, if the dealer told him to take out the battery, given that everything in the vehicle is or should be fusibly linked. ._.

Unless the car has some sort of super duper Artificial Intelligence module that had it's own evil state of mind. (Rhetorical Statement)

Yeah, I guess just pull the back seats down, pull the HHR mat out, pull the plastic cover off, pull the spare tire cover off, and insert and connect battery or temporary power source to shift the car into neutral.

Yes, crawling through the trunk is a pain in the butt. However, if it needs to be done, just get it done, I suppose.

No need to go through all that hassle to get at the battery in the trunk - just use the jumper procedure under the hood as noted in several of the previous posts - ie: post #2, 8, 10, 11, and 17.

It couldn't be simpler.

Ahhh, the simple life! Fuel air spark, it runs !! Not anymore!

One memory saver!

Even simpler you just connect a 9volt battery. Enough to get the shifter unlocked.

Grizzly nailed it. If it's being towed(by a tow truck), there is no problem.

It sounds like the issue is that, even with the battery installed, there is a communication problem. So some systems aren't working.
