My hhr feels very unstable on highway driving and crosswinds. Is it normal? it has stock steel wheels and tires

A quick definition on "unstable" would help.

Mine moves a bit during heavy winds around here, but remember, you are trying to push a brich through the wind at 70mph. It isn't going to slice through the wind like a corvette.

large profile vehicles will move around in the wind.

I have been in some pretty heavy winds with mine. I have always felt the HHR was pretty stable, comparatively, in winds. Maybe your alignment should be checked.

when i go beyond 50 mph in windy situations i feel like its going to sway. Is it related to alignment? it doesnt push on one side during normal driving if i take my hands off steering wheel

Its short , narrow and high...a rolling billboard...the wind will push you around and you will get used to it. i used to check my DIC for tire pressures going down untill I realised it was the wind...oh, you don't notice the wind from the inside unlike some other vehicles that the wind is noisy. Also check the weather and see how high they been blowing, its up there....

I agree with hyper

With the winds in Ohio today, I was getting quite a bit a bit of movement on the highways.

Caught me by surprise a couple of times.
