i've done a whole lot of research on the mini breed alone.. 2 inch thick binder of front and back paper to be exact So i like to share so my knowledge doesn't go to waste..

And yeah they can be registered, but American Kennel Club doesn't recognize them yet. They have even gone so far as to "rename" the breed. Mini/Toy are also known as North American Shepherd so that the two breeds are clearly defined. someday they will be AKC recognized...

And yeah a lot of standard breeders don't like mini's b/c some breeders don't try to breed for the quality of the breed, rather they want the dogs to be small, or want them to have blue eyes, ext ext and they don't do what's best for the breed.

One thing's forsure, dog breeders can get feisty!!

And i liked the Toy/Mini b/c I wanted a smaller dog. I've had a Siberian Husky and i have a black lab so i've done the whole "big dog" thing

And he isn't too bad at the whole potty training bit. he has only had one accident but he did it on hard ground, so it was no biggy. And when you take him outside he goes immediately.. Sooo he is a pretty quick learner

And yeah it's hard to be a breeder. I've done a LOT of research and talked to a LOT of breeders so hopefully in a few years i will be ready. It's all in advertising and who you know to be able to get the word out. ANd you deff got to make sure you do it effectively if you are wanting to turn a profit But i wouldn't be in it for the profit, rather for the pleasure of the breed

And Bentley has been in the HHR quite a bit

 

We also hit some odd breeders. I was suprised how many won't return even a call.

The breeder we went though was ok with us since we had one before but we had to sign we would not breed for minitures. I did not care as we were not breeding anyway. Se was a stickler for this.

I read all the resonsibilities and the cost associated in breeding and it was not near as easy as I thought. It really is a lot of work for pure breed dogs and resonsibility.

We also had to go about 2.5 hours away to get the dog. We went into a town where I swore I saw a kid in a tree playing bandjo. But we got to the house it was very big and expensive. Not what I expected after the town.

They had a lot of dogs and all of them were very nice. We did not get to spend much time with the mother dog as she was still mad they took the pups away. She did play some frisbie with us. The father came in and spent time. HE was real good with the pups and played with them all.

 

Yeah i have been talking to some breeders throughout the country because i was considering flying a puppy in.. but bre=poor so i cannot afford that.. BUT if you talk with them they are typically easy going. A lot of the better breeders just want to make sure that you will be the "forever" home and not put them on the street. Some go so far to make contracts that are like, 6 pages long.

Some don't like you to breed theirs because they want to make sure you do it right. A few breeders i talked to told me if i was going to breed, that they would help me choose a right dog to breed whatever dog i got.

The breeder I found (mostly choose her bc of price) was well-informed and really nice and cared about her dogs. She was about 2- 2 1/2 hours away from Dallas/Fort Worth Area... BUT she was competing in a barrel race in stephenville which was only about 1- 1 1/2 hours away... So we went and got him then. BUT if you ever decide you want one, I can prob recommend a few breeders that have quality dogs... I am deff no expert but i know quite a bit :)

And breeding is expensive... That's why i am waiting until i start teaching.. and i would do it in the summer.. You have to have a lot of available time to dedicate toward them. ANYWAYS, i have just merly done my research and talk to breeders and ask them questions.. if you ask them questions a lot of times they look at it as you want to learn about the breed, and that you would take care of their animal.

BUT yeah. always try and meet the parents if you can. Make sure both parents are merles.. bad breeder if both mom and dad are merles.

I like the the old days where you justy got the dog from a farm and were not sure what it was.

I was glad the internet was here as this made the whole search easier.

Well we are losing teeth now. Just found another one tonight.

My son wanted to know if the tooth fairy was coming. I think he wanted the dogs money!

by the time i have kids ill go broke paying for lost teeth..
