Generally, GM sends a letter, some time after the purchase, to remind you that THEIR extended warranty is still available....I believe in the first year of ownership.

Price is the same, I believe. I threw mine away about a week ago....so I'm doing this from recollection. But, I do believe it said to recontact your dealer for more information.

There are aftermarket warranties that can be purchased, but you need to be REAL careful with these according to the BBB and Consumers Reports (they mentioned that a lot of dealers sell these and have been a continual source of complaints).

Which raises another topic......GM's announcement should really put a squeeze on the aftermarker warranty people.

Oh, since I'm the "owner" of this thread...

I have not read all the releases yet, but I think I heard that this warranty will be extended to all the 2006 vehicles still on the dealer lots....could be wrong.

This deals with only the Powertrain Warranty, I find it no big deal....a big deal would be a Bumper to Bumper Warranty for 5yrs/100K.

As a 2006 HHR owner I am not worried about not having the 5 year 100,000 mile warranty. GM is the best when it comes to powertrain and reliability. I do not forsee having any problems before 5 years or 100,000 miles

Ahh, that's illegal......unless it was a the dealer's warranty.

By Federal Law....service, at recommended intervals, and repairs, can be performed by anyone that has the expertise.

Great News

Was just watching Katie Couric, she was saying GM is going to raise the warranty on their cars from 36,/36 to 5 years/100,000 miles....
