new owner, surprise milleage

First post on this site and a new owner since May 2007. HHR LS, 2.2 L. I was getting 8.4L\100Kms combined city and highway.
I am back from a 1500Kms trip, mostly highway, and got a amazing 7.1L\100Kms or 39MPG ( Imperial ). This was a surprise.
My odometer reads 6200Kms and the car is problem free except for the easily stained frabric of the seats.

Welcome to the site.

That is really good mileage.

While on vacation last week I was able to get 640 kms to a tank of gas.
No idea yet what that works out to in MPIG or L/100 kms, but it's the best I've ever gotten so far.

I can't seem to adjust my driving enough to get mine under 10.0 over a full tank average

The more my wife drives it the better it gets, but I'm usually in the 12 range

First fill up

After owning the car for a month, I completed my first fill up. I got 21 mpg in what is obviously mostly city driving. I'm a happy camper. Next month another 10 gal.!

That has to be all city i'm guessing. My 6.0 GTO would average 22.5 in mixed driving when I was using it as my Daily driver.

The LS"X" engines get pretty good mileage for what they are. High 20's in even an auto on the highway is not hard to do.
