How does everyone feel about oil additives in the HHR for improving gas mileage and engine life? Over the years I never really put much stock in it myself. Always felt they were just "snake oil." Any reason to change my thinking???

 

The closest thing I've used to that would be some Lucas in my '88 Sierra. Never thought about putting anything in the HHR though...

 

I've used Lucas in the past myself, so far nothing in the HHR..... I'll decide when I do my next oil change...... Haven't decided if it's going to be Synthetic or Dino oil yet and that would influence the use or non-use of an additive.

GM says "no" to additives I believe.

 

Todays oils have specific additive packages in them already.

Why mess with a good thing.. Keep your 'beans' in yer jeans..

 

I run Marvel Mystery Oil in my 23 year old car and put some in the gas tank periodicaly in all my cars.

 

Amsoil ( and probably EVERY oil company) frowns upon all additives, claiming that they simply are not needed. Oil companies change their formulas with the changing times.

 

The only thing that has ever SEEMED to work for me is BG MOA. Several vehicles ago, a Toyota pickup came with first recommended service, which had BG MOA included. I was rather amazed that I did observe an apparent increase in MPG from about 19 to about 23. I never tried it again, and in no way am recommending the product. I have tried just about everything else at one time or another, and that is the only one that gave me any observable effect at all.

 

I am just not convinced there is any real benefit using oil additives. Years ago, perhaps, but premium oil and synthetics of today, contain everything todays engines need.

 

Theres a time and place for an additive..but not in a vehicle that has no problems....nuff said

I add a bit MMO in my ol Flathead Harley every other tank of gas...But never in modern vehicles or my Evos ..
