It won't matter, there will still be people out there regardless of proof who will insist on sticking with the 3000 mi/3mo PM

As an Amsoil dealer, I've been telling folks this for years. Mobil did a great job of marketing to get everyone to beleive this myth, and it is EXTREMELY hard to talk someone out of this, so I don't waste my time. I tell them once, if they believe me, fine, if not, let them waste their time and money. You should ALWAYS follow the vehicle manufacturer's recommendation, as they cover the WARRANTY!. With older cars, oil analysis can tell you when you should change your oil. Also, changing filters will clean up your oil.

yay for AmsOil! that's what i run in my Camaro, and after i cash in on my "free 1st oil change" from my dealership, the HHR will be going that route too. unfortunately, according to my buddy who is also an AmsOil dealer, they do not have the Ea Oil filters for the HHRs, since it is the "european style" filter element in a canister, not a typical spin-on filter.

I am running AmsOil in my 2.2 panel and found that the NAPA gold filter is made by WIX. The filter has the same filtering material as the Ea filters. I change the filter every 5,000 miles.

Oil? The car needs oil? Where do you put it? (Gee, you learn something new everyday...)

Our BMW uses an ultra-fine filter, and the BMW synthetic (or Mobil Synthetic for extended service) is good for 15,000 to 20,000 miles. BMW did tests that found no measurable wear at even much longer intervals.

I was wondering, (I haven't even read my owners manual yet only had the car a week) does the HHR stock come with syn? (2008)?

The HHR comes with organic oil....stock.

This is recommended for break-in. I use Castrol Syntec 15,000 mile oil
formulated for Volvo / BMW. Castro recommended that I put 2000 miles on the organic oil before changing to synthetic to allow the engine to seat.

I will run the oil for 10,000 between changes, and replace the filter more often as needed. Filter changes are very easy on the 2.2....

My 2 pennies worth.

Well, I bought mine with 6600 on it, I figure I could do synthetic now! I'm gonna go for it, plan on driving it for a loooong time... until I can afford a Chevy Volt then the HHR will become a true hot rod! Maybe an LT1? A guy can dream!
