Oregon Is Looking to Ban Auto Modifications

If you live in Oregon you might want to take note. If you do not live in Oregon you may want to beware to stop this from happening in your own state.

There are many things that we are in need to watch for with some of the people that just got elected. This is not a Left or Right, Democrat or Republican thing. We need to be wary as with the newly elected people of both parties and the economic times we have things like this can get passed through before you know it. Most time it is attached to other bills and you never see it coming.

Oregon is also where the idea started to tax you per mile driven, This is an idea now being discused in other states too.

I don't mean to come across as a alarmist but It is times like this we need to watch our elected officals and their bills very close. All of them! We elected them and we should hold them to representing all of us not just the minority opinion.

Anyway this kind of law will restrict much of what most of us do to out HHR SS and how we use them. This kind of law will effect all of us if it spreads. Kiss the tire change, sway bars and stage kits good by if a law like this prevails.

URGENT LEGISLATIVE ALERT
Oregon Introduces Bill to Prohibit Sale of Aftermarket Parts
At the request of Governor Theodore Kulongoski, the Oregon Speaker of the House has introduced legislation (H.B. 2186) to prohibit the sale and distribution of aftermarket motor vehicle parts if alternatives are available that “decrease greenhouse gas emissions from motor vehicles.” The bill is primarily focused on aftermarket tires and would authorize the Environmental Quality Commission to implement enforcement regulations, likely based on a rolling resistance calculation.

We Urge You to Contact Oregon Speaker of the House Dave Hunt and Members of the Environment and Water Committee (Contact Information Below) Immediately to Request Their Opposition to H.B. 2186

H.B. 2186 would regulate vehicle fuel economy, an authority reserved to the federal government.

H.B. 2186 could ban tires that may have improved performance, handling or appearance features, based solely on a rolling resistance rating. In addition, this program could easily distract consumers from focusing on more important safety issues such as tire inflation and overloading of vehicles.

H.B. 2186 would force consumers to purchase only original equipment manufacturer (OEM) tires because the program essentially exempts OEM-selected tires and unfairly implies that they are superior to aftermarket products.

H.B. 2186 could prohibit aftermarket parts designed to either personalize or optimize specific vehicle performance attributes including handling, towing, suspension, fuel economy, etc.

H.B. 2186 provides broad authority to government regulators and could limit a range of aftermarket parts currently available to consumers based on the subjective determination of government regulators.
DON’T DELAY! Please contact Oregon Speaker Dave Hunt and the House Environment and Water Committee immediately to urge his opposition to H.B. 2186.

Angry Good luck, commies!

This kind of legislation will help nothing. It is all show and no go. Garbage data in --> Garbage data out. Seems like they are in with the big auto mfgs in an effort to help save their a**es? This will only kill small businesses. Great work, guys. What about the fact that many performance mods actually are, as a side effect to most of us, MPG performance upgrades? And what about the fact that OEM tires are GARBAGE? Or the fact that only 25% of the worlds CO2 emissions are from cars? How does holding back the 0.5% of car owners that are performance enthusiasts help anything? The end result doesn't even register on the graph, unless it's a loss of freedom graph. One more freedom GONE. Why are your/our soldiers dying all over the world? So we can put up with this bullox? I try to take most of this carbon crap with a grain of salt, but it was only a matter of time before it was knocking on my door, now it is. Ya, I'm in Canada. Problem is our gov't always trys to kiss a** by following suit. SPEAK UP guys. Big Brother is coming for you now.

I would think that KUMHO tires would be included

I'm sorry, am I missing something? How does banning after market tires help the environment again? Don't you actually burn less gas on harder tires, or have the laws of physics changed since yesterday? Are they saying that there are more tires going to the dump or something?

The Idea is from the people involved claim the larger or wider tires decrease mileage and increase the carbon foot print of a auto from what it was deleiverd from the factory. It may but that is our freedom to choose a minor mileage loss to a better performing and safer vehicle.

If anyone thinks this will never come about you had better think twice.

The people running the Congress and the Senate are willing and have to jack the MPG requirements to levels that are near impossible to meet in cars we want to buy.

We already have has several states working hard to make changing a cat back exhaust Illegal. This kind of exhaust does not effect the cars emissions and if anything improve mileage.

Time to stop electing people who don't drive themselves or even know how to check their own oil.

The next 4 years a lot of Eviro lobbiest are due for pay backs so we had better watch all legislation.

Keep an eye on the SEMA web site and the pending laws they are trying to pass. They have stopped many but over time you can't stop them all.

If your an automotive enthusiat your hobby is under attack.
