Is it possible to install a turbocharger from the HHR SS model to the LS one?

I've been trying to find any and all solutions to figure out if I can install the turbocharger that is used in the SS model (2.0L DOHC) that comes stock and be able to purchase just the turbocharger and install it on the LS model.

I've seen that it is a possibility but there's no videos or tutorials on how to install them, I've also been told that it would just be more ethical to purchase the 2.0 motor and do an engine swap but instead of spending $2,500 to $3,500 on a new/used motor, I would rather spend $1,500 on the turbocharger.

another question I have is that, would the 2.2 l be able to sustain the horsepower that the turbocharger outputs, because you have to remember the 2.2 comes with a 4-speed automatic versus the 2.0 being a 5-speed manual. not saying you can't add more mods to an automatic, but it wouldn't be ethical to do that versus adding mods to a manual, the transmission could take it.

No. There is a lot more that would have to be done than just “bolting up” a turbo. Too many things to list. Best bet is to go with a supercharger kit.

FYI. You’ve got a lot of your info wrong. You could get SS’s with 5 speed or automatic transmission. Same with the regular LS and LT’s.

Anything can be done, how much time, money and knowledge do you have?
It would be easier, cheaper and quicker to trade your LS for a SS.
There used to be supercharger kits made for LS/LT, I don't know if they are still available.

I guess it would, but mine has close to 300,000 miles and I don't think any dealership would take this trade in for more than 500 bucks.

With that many miles, you should not even consider forced induction. The pressure would ruin the engine, could ruin the transmission too.

Why would you think of trading it in anyway? Dealer won't give you as much as you could sell it for, and they would charge more for a car than a private seller.

Note this doesn’t include the supercharger, you have to find a used one in the wrecking yard or on the interwebs.

This was a great turbo charger kit , but it’s sold out.

Your very natural question gets asked a lot by new HHR owners without much experience with performance modifications. The answer has always been the same. It's MUCH cheaper to just trade up to an SS, for MUCH better results. I suppose if the SS prices continue to rise, that could change.

Now, if you want an all-out track monster, or a radical custom build, there could be exceptions to that rule due to all the mods involved, and all the $$$. But that wasn't what you were asking about, were you?

Talking

I tried to increase my natural performance once and found that it was too expensive so I remained naturally aspirated.

As time went on the manufacturer of the performance enhancing package lost their exclusive rights. Then a lot of different packages came on the market.

By then I was all worn out and afraid if I installed such alternatives I might blow a gasket or worse.

Still running today, 0-60 speeds still close to original specifications....
