pretty expensive to buy in canada.

http://configurator.autodata.gmcanad...urVehicle.html just to compare canadian versus american prices...have a lokk here. ONE thing i dont understand, is that if GM is saying that you have to special order a manual transmission , then why are they asking $1250.oo cnd for the automatic transmission? If they feel that nobody orders a manual transmission anymore and then they only stock their dealerships with automatic equipped TRANSmission HHR's , we still have to pay an extra $1250??? I know that these GM websites are a suggested retail price and you can go dicker for less in person....but they seem grossly overpriced compared to how much they retail for in the USA. I am guesstimating that if i wanted a 2007 HHR LT WITH AUTO, ABS Brakes, sport suspension, 17 inch tires/rims and maybeeeee leather seats...i could be looking at 30 grand easy...then add canadian taxes...34 grand or so.

Most people want autos now, and they are better for resale.

A lot of the things you want are combined in packages, but if you want a 2.4 motor, you have to go with the 1SC package. I priced out an equivelent to what I have now, and it came out to about $26,000 CDN.

If order a manual instead of an auto, you take $1250 off the price.

In your second post, did you change the options at all from car to car? Just wondering because if you didn't, those prices vary wildly for just a different color

BTW... No help really, but here I special ordered mine and got all I wanted for 27,3XX, but that was with the 10-spoke Chevy Accessories wheels...

I'm sure there will be more comments on this but my search shows that minimum wage in Canada is higher than what it is here in the US. Then it is understandable why our friends in Canada pay more.

They are many things to consider when comparing Canadian and American prices, yes we do make a little bit more but we are also taxed quite a bit more. Many of our goods are also imported and have that extra cost added on but the big problem as of the last two years or so is price parity. The loonie has been gaining strength and the has reached parity but retailers have not reached the same level of parity. Most have done nothing at all other than make extra profit.

In Sept 2005, when I bought my HHR, the price came to just under $32,000 with tax and a few dealer add ons. This was for a loaded, minus satellite radio and side impact airbags, HHR. Two years later and with a Canadian dollar that is almost 50% stronger the prices are still the same.

ahhh...calgaryhhr sees my point! I believe that consumers in alberta pay less taxes then here in british columbia. I am not putting you or your vehicle down, but when you think of it....dont you think 32 grand is a lot of money for whats really an economy car (chevy cobalt) in a retro wrapper? Also, it be interesting to see what the resale value will be on this car as 3-4-5-6 years go by. I still like the HHR and more then likely will buy one...but i hate parting with my hard earned money on something thats seems a tad overpriced and giving the canadian government even more tax dollars. I think i read somewhere that 40-45% of our income goes to federal and provincial taxes.

Buy used. Let some one else take the first $7000 hit. Probably $10,000 in Canada. $32,000 plus interest is far too much to pay for the HHR even though it's a great car. Take emotion out of the equation and it's pretty clear it's far more then a "tad" over priced at 30K plus

hey kingfrog, how do you like your tan leather interior? easy to keep clean? i like the fact that the tan leather brightens up the HHR's cabin a lot. What is your opinion now that you have sat in it for awhile?
