Protection Package

I just dropped off my new HHR SS aka: Noodle 5 at the dealer to have the protection package done. This includes:

Clearcoat protection: had this done to all my vehicles I have had since I was an adult. It really seems to make a difference. On my 04 Impala SS the paint looked as good the day I traded her in as the day I bought it new.

Rust Proofing: This is a no holes drilled type that is a vaporized rubber that is sprayed into all the body panels through factory openings. It adhears to all the internal surfaces of the metal and with my previous cars I have had no rust even in our over salted area.

Sound dampening: I really liked this with my other cars. it reduces road noise and even made the stereo sound better in the Impala. I somewhat regret getting his, as I love the way my SS sounds going down the road.

and...Interior fabric and surface protection(this is a must with 3 kids): This includes waterproofing all the seats and the carpet. It also includes free repair of any rips, tears, burns, or stains for as long as I own the car no questions asked. The dealership will repair or replace any damaged interior surface free of charge for as long as I own the car.

Best of all I only paid $700(under 10 bucks per month at 0% financing) for all of this which I believe I will get back in stain and tear repair from the kids.

Did anyone get any similar add on's?

What are your opinions of these types of optional protection for cars?

my dealer didn't try to sell me anything like that or the extended warranty or anything, maybe he though he'd never get the money out of me.

$700 is a lot to me since i'm young and the car cost me a lot anyways, but i think i would be interested in something like that. i like the clearcoat protection and the fabric one. Wonder if i should e-mail him about it or just say forget it.

I did buy a similar protection plan because of having a young daughter. it was added on to my extra 100,000 mile warranty. They said that the interior would be covered against stains, tears, etc., just like yours. And even the paint would be protected from fading and chipping. Sounded too good to be true. Since I bought the car out of my local area I asked if this would be accepted at any GM dealer. They said that it absolutely would. Of course, the first time I needed it, my local Chevy dealer said they had never heard of such a thing and that I would have to take it back to the dealer I bought it from which is almost 6 hours away.

So, yes, it is a pain. But if it came to something major that they told me was covered, I would drive the 6 hours to make them fix it. I am glad I bought the 100,000 mile extended warranty anyway since we are sitting at about 38k now.

Okay, those sayings being stated, adding paint, fabric and rust protectors is not needed. I believe you will find that statement is in your owners manual. Of course any Dealer that sells those products knows you won't find out about the true value of these products until years after they sell it to you. Also I know the OP stated he had 0% financing but for those that don't have that, the cost is going to be much more then $700. The contracts also state normal wear and tear is not covered. They have lots of other exclusions in the fine print. Next time take the money and put it in a CD or savings account.

I have to Agree with ChevyMgr here, It's Just not Needed on these newer Tech cars.... and factor in that you traded in your 04 impala with the Protective Treatment on it, you will most likly trade in your HHRSS in 2012/2013 ish, Sounds like a good deal for the next owner of your SS...

Well now that you have called me a sucker, why not respond to my original post? I asked for opinions. Usually when I ask for an opinion I expect a well thought out response, not a single insult to my intellegence. I have often wondered if these protection packages were just a scam, so that is why I asked for opinions. I can tell you that the cars I had in my youth faded and rusted like a ship at sea. Since getting the protection packages on my vehicles I have not had any issues. Maybe it is better materials they use these days, or maybe its better paint, or maybe its global warming, but with a response like yours I guess I will never know.

Well, with that being said would someone educated please advise me of the truth or rumor to the effectiveness of these packages? Please back up your responses with facts or personal experiences.

I can guarantee that with the three kids in the back I will get my money for the whole package back just with the interior protection.

With very few exceptions I have found that HHR owners are great people. I work in a field that puts me in direct contact with many people and it seems that HHR owners are good folks.

I appreciate all of you that have offered your thoughts on mods, models, and options in a respectful way. Keep up the great posts!!!

Thank you for a well thought out response. That is what I am looking for here. I may in the future decide that I won't purchase these packages and your response is appreciated.
