The side to stop the shift from side to side, I suppose you could go from the top also to stop any bounce.

 

I wrapped the adapter in electrical tape just to see if it would stop it from banging and rattling. I'll put the carrier on it tomorrow for the ride to work, maybe I'll drill and tap it this weekend. Sounds like a good plan.

 

I put that curt hitch on my 08 last summer and also picked up the cargo carrier from HF last weekend. They didn't have a hitch adapter though so I plan to check another store. Does the exhaust interfere with the carrier? Should I get an adapter with a riser?

 

Hey, Lady Bee, that carrier extends about 7" from the bumper with the adapter on it. I have a chrome tip on the muffler and doesn't even come close. As far as a rise, I have seen cargo carriers with an offset that raises them up, which is probably preferable if you would ever load it down. Mine clears everything so far, but I haven't put anything in it yet. It's almost time for mulch, so I'll put it to the test in a couple weeks.

 

I just replaced the 2" tube with a 1 1/4" tube on mine. I hated using the adapter (makes it stick out way too far for my liking and you cut capacity in half with one) and the replacement tube was cheaper than the adapter. Can't remember for the life of me where I found it, but not for my hitch haul, but still a perfect fit. Google might be your friend.

 

That's a great idea. Yeah, I'm not a big fan of the adapter either.

 

Need to remember also when using a hitch carrier that things get covered up, like license plates and tail lights. I had a bicycle carrier in my hitch a couple of years ago coming back from a tip to Utah and got stopped because these items were obstructed. Let me off with a warning but told me I needed to make all visible when using it.
