The hatch on my Rav4 opened like that. I actually prefer the upward lifting hatch. The side opening hatches take up room when you open them. So if some one parks a little close you may not be able to open it.

That is one sweet HHR! Love the interior, however it seems the dash glove box has been removed. I don't care for that. The paint in the interior is fabulous, and the wood looks great. I wish the golden teal would look more like this one, or more of a turquoise color. The one bad thing about buying this car is I would never want to drive it. Pretty much a show car only IMO. It will be very interesting to see how much this sells for.
