Rear Spoiler Question

I'm thinking of adding the rear spoiler to my HHR and wonder if it is of any help keeping the dust and dirt off the rear window? It looks nice but for $200 if it doesn't do anything but look nice I think I'll put my money somewhere else. Opinions please.

Which spoiler are you adding, the SS or the orignal spoiler? I added the orignal spoiler and if any thing it attracts more, not sure why it just seems that since adding ive noticed more dust on the back. My reasons were stricly cosmetic.

Yup, i'm thinking a spoiler does add more dust/dirt to the rear, only cuz that is part of it's design and purpose.

Ya, they really don't add all that much downforce until you prob hit the upper end plus of the speedo, so it's prob more for looks than anything for the majority of people.

Sure it likely helps at highway speeds, but it's nowhere near like race car stuff.

I Ended up getting the SS Spoiler. I mainly got it for looks. As far as Dirt..Ehh i don't notice a differance. I bought it mainly for looks, if i had to do it again i'd keep the $200.

Shouldn't make any difference as far as the amount of dirt-unlike the integrated vaned roof spoilers that were on my Cavalier wagons that were designed to direct air flow onto the window. In theory this was to keep the window cleaner-in practice it kept them dirtier.

As others stated......No, it won't help.

In order to help keep the rear window from collecting road grime, you would need to install some kind of deflector. I've been looking for this kind of item and found that Lund has one listed on their web site, but the local Lund retailers here in Miami, as well as other auto part web sites, site that Lund has discountinued production of the item (if it was ever actually produced to begin with ).

I got a great deal on mine and installed for the same you reason you are thinking. SAVE YOUR MONEY! It did not help with keeping it cleaner. put the money towards something more useful.

Good Luck, John

$200 for a spoiler????????
By shopping wisely (meaning "no GM dealers"..apologies to chevymgr, etc)
NEW genuine GM painted spoiler........................................... .........$65
NEW GM bumper cover .................................................. ..............$20
like new leather steering wheel with radio controls (same as SS)..........$35
used '08 upgrade radio............................................. ....................$60
Now, what to do with the remaining $20??
