You need a GM scanner to reset the mileage

Thanks for that information! I didn’t see that mentioned in any of the posts regarding replacement of cluster! Is that something a dealership can do? I still have the original cluster from my 2011 HHR panel wagon it’s mileage is 212500ish and the replacement cluster that I bought came from a 2009 panel wagon with 264000

The odometer data is stored in the BCM. A new/replacement I/P will not work until it is programmed with a Tech2 or equivalent. Some independent shops have the computers

But I didn’t see this fact mentioned anywhere on any of the threads or posts here on this site? Everything that I saw said the information is stored in the computer and just changing the cluster should then show that information otherwise I could buy a cluster from a wrecked HHR with lower mileage and then my car would display that lower mileage! So now I’m even more confused! I still have the original cluster from my HHR panel wagon and it should still hold my actual mileage how do I get this straightened out?
thanks

The Tech2 device will read the odometer reading from your BCM

So a dealer should have that Tech2 device and program my cluster to the correct mileage? What’s that going to cost me? Please
thanks

Any reputable shop should have a tech2 or equivalent. You'd have to ask the shop for a price.

So they read the BCM and reset the cluster?

Yes, that’s what they did for my wagon.
