Rental Retread

Hey..anyone else running a former rental vehicle? With all these tricked up, prepped and pampered other HHRS on this site I'm starting to feel like the poor cousin from the backwoods in my tinfoil colored, pre-dinged and pre-soiled '06 LS.

I forget where i heard this, but buying a rental is kinda like going to the whore house to find a wife. I'm sure if the right amount of work you could def bring a rental back to new condition if you can find one that isn't too dented up. Hey if i was going to do a full custom hhr i would probably think about picking up an old rental.

You will probably find many owners who have a ex-rental, but dont even know it.

Nothing wrong with buying a ex-rental...for many rent-a-car companies, the rentals got better maintenance than privately owned vehicles.

many rent-a-car companies used to bring their vehicles in to our shop as a "national fleet account". They were VERY strict as to what parts to use, and what maintenance was done.

look for the positive. Not every rental was abused...some were soldiers, and soldiers make excellent pals.

A rental is where I fell in love with the HHR. My other car was in the shop and they gave me an '07 1LT for a rental and it sure got my attention.

I'm sure there have to be advantages to buying a previously rented HHR, namely in the price... you should be able to afford more mods than some who purchased new.

So you're saying that if I paint the fenders with black Rustoleum and a 4" hog-hair paintbrush it won't be so bad, eh?

and by the way..I DID find my wife in a whorehouse, and the experience she had was well worth the medical treatments.

Yeah, but sometimes a whore might know how to do a few things a good girl doesn't...

I'll guarantee you paid a whole lot less than we did for our new '06s. They were going for close to sticker price back then. Last week I saw a new '08 advertised for less than I paid for '06 brand new.

Also, mine may be a 1LT but the only options added were AT, premium stereo w/6 CD changer and XM radio, and roof racks. I could have done without all of them and still had a great car.

Many used cars are rentals, one of the HHRs i was considering was a rental and it was in super condition. Car Fax tells you about previous owners, thats how I found out, Car Fax also prevented me from buying a previously heavily wrecked Corvette. Its well worth the $20 before you drop the big bucks.

I traveled to Nebraska to buy my previous rental. Got a great price and looks great. Am not sorry that I bought it. This is the second time that I have bought a rental with good result. I was surprised that Avis would option it so well.

Mass Man; I have a 06 LS rental and have had no prob.with it at all. Like in a post before most rentals get good service. Like my 06 it was leased to the rental CO. then turned back to GM to be resold. I don't have remote start but I do have power driver seat. when I 1st look at it the carpet was stained & far rear mat also. When I picked up looked like new. Just needed to be cleaned. what I paid for a almost new car next to MSRP was what made the deal. I went looking for a new but at that time there was no deals no cash back it was MSRP or walk, and I worked there before retire for 6yr. Thats when the they told me that they were getting in some turn back rentals in about a week. I waited, It was a h--l of a deal better.

Mass Man; I am from East Freetown, Ma.
