Replacement glass - OEM vs. aftermarket?

With 1k miles on my '10 HHR SS, my windshield was taken out by a flying aluminum ladder while minding my own business on I-95 North at 65mph.

My insurance company recommends Safelite glass for the windshield replacement. Is there any disadvantage to using their glass and service, or should I go with the OEM glass?

Glass is Glass.

As long as the Tint is the Same or one you like better.

Saves the Insurance a few bucks over OEM.

Now, IF you were restoring a Vintage Classic and wanted a 100 point restored car. You would want OEM Glass. Because of the Identification on the Glass.

That's the one I went with. Three years and no issues.

BTW, you now also have the option to have a tint stripe at the top. I did when I had to replace mine, it does help with sun glare.

No kidding. Everyone's fine, and my wife has washed her panties and cleaned out the seat.

Nothing like having .005 seconds to identify the object that fell out of the sky and landed on your car at 65mph.

$1100 in repairs.

Agree you are fortunate there were no injuries, and no more damage then there was. Getting back to the glass, I wouldn't be too concerned about non-GM glass going in. In fact, the oem glass seems to me to be soft and very subject to pitting and scratching. Maybe the non-oem glass is better than the original.

Safelite uses good glass plus if there is any defects they will stand behind them and warrenty it. The only difference between OEM and aftermarket is about 110 bucks. Being NAGS is $523.05 and OEM is $413.44 and laber is 4.7 hours to install.
Make sure you tell the installer that you want a blue band across the top or your going to get what was in there from factory green shaded glass. Non blue shade.
I have this windshield going in my 2010 HHR DW1637GBY and its made in the USA.
hope this helps you out.

It was great driving skills that saved the day , Half of the friends i have would have rolled there ride after a ladder hit. I've had that happen to me with the windsheild wiper grill of a big boat car, flippin off its hood ( 6 feet wide by 6 inches of god knows what is flying at me ( steel , wood , ) and i'm doing 75 hit the brakes , cut the wheel a bit, It grased the head light, and took 5 years off of my life.
