roof rack

Does anyone have experience with some aftermarket roof racks?
My roof is bare, no side rails.
But I see some cars using Thule or other companies where the cross rails sit in between the top of the door and the roof.

i dont really want to buy the gm kit and drill holes in the roof

I don't know if they came up with a new system, but the old fashioned system relied on old fashioned door openings with the drip rail to attach to. I don't see any way short of drilling on an HHR, for a semi-permanent installation. Temporarily running straps through the car would probably work.

Some body may have engineered a way.

If you put those on an HHR you'd never get the doors open...

The top of that clamp sits on the weld line of that car, the bottom clips up under the door frame. We have neither. Our doors go over the body and rely solely on the gasket to keep water out.

Maybe someone has figured a way, but I don't see a way short of drilling.

I am not an expert, I have not spent a night in a hotel in 20 years.
