Roof rack template
Roof rack template
I did a search on the forum here and found a "how to" install a GM factory rack on a car without one, but I don't know where to get a template. I got a rack from the local pick and pull. Anyone have a template I could buy?
If not, I wonder if I could make one from tracing paper. When I took the rack off at the pick and pull, it left a clear pattern where the rack attachment points had been. Wonder if I could trace that, including reference points???

Go to a craft store like maybe Jo-Ann fabrics or Michel's and see if you can get wide paper.
Make a template of the whole roof.
Need template as well
I just purchased used roof rails for my 2010 HHR SS off of eBay & need a template as well... I would not mind purchasing a template or even a copy & wondering if anyone can provide more guidance & assistance? Thank you!
You can buy these plastic drill guides you insert into the holes, then put the part on the vehicle and tape the fins down, lift the part off and you have the exact locations to drill pilot holes, remove and drill the proper diameter and install the part. I used them when I worked in a customized installation shop. They look like a tube with long fins or tabs on one end that you take down once in place, come in various diameters to fit screw holes snugly if I can find a link Ill post it
I was thinking of doing something like that too, but I would need to know a good reference point for atleast the back hole to make sure I position it on the roof properly. I would also have to ensure I install it parallel with the other rail & the template makes it so much easier. Hellshotrod is helping me out via private messaging & I greatly appreciate everyone's assistance! I do love my HHR & this forum is wonderful!
