RPMs in 5th gear

Greerongs, first post.
bought 07 HHR LT 2.4L 5sp
Question what speed does the HHR supposed to be at 3000rpm in 5th gear. I'm at 70mph. Seems high or is it just me.
Thank you

Welcome to the site, I’m sure a member with a 5 speed will chime in.

Although my SS has a different 5 speed than the LS, LT HHR's, it runs about 2900 RPM's at 70 mph.

Use this, you have to know tire diameter, trans gear ratio and rear end ratio.

Look up the specs on the cars trans gear ratios, final drive (rear end) ratio and use a tire size calculator from a web site to know the diameter of the tires you have.

Using the first calculator given the results are with using a 215/50R17 tire:

Using Transmission Gear Ratio: 0.69 gives these RPM data:
Engine Speed (RPM) MPH 4.17 Gear MPH Gear MPH Gear
8000 RPM 210.93 MPH
7500 RPM 197.74 MPH
7000 RPM 184.56 MPH
6500 RPM 171.38 MPH
6000 RPM 158.20 MPH
5500 RPM 145.01 MPH
5000 RPM 131.83 MPH
4500 RPM 118.65 MPH
4000 RPM 105.46 MPH
3500 RPM 92.28 MPH
3000 RPM 79.10 MPH
2500 RPM 65.91 MPH
2000 RPM 52.73 MPH
1500 RPM 39.55 MPH
1000 RPM 26.37 MPH
