I just washed my black HHR after a long winter in Indiana and have found small rust spots under the rear window, bottom of the rear hatch (large spot) and also on step rail. It's not even one year old yet.

If I take it in, will anything be done?

 

I put GM truck mudflaps on at 500 miles, they sit as low as I dared put them, they scrape on steep driveways.

This is at 2500 miles. I didn't think it could be this bad.
I've also got a couple of places where the paint coverage is thin - under the rear window, and inside the seam at the edge of the roof above the rear quarters, where I can see primer, or maybe it's metal.

 

Well after much cleaning and waxing, I got the rear hatch area looking pretty good. I also used my clay bar to remove much of the winter grime that stays on the back like glue! Looking sharp but it's gonna take some major upkeep to look good.

I'll repost after I talk to the dealer about the rust issues.

 

Rust spots on the paint surface caused by "Industrial fallout", "Acid Rain" or "Rail Dust" are covered by GM for the first 12 months of ownership. The Service Manager can authorize repairs after 12 months on a case by case basis.

On HHR's without running boards, road debris damage to the rocker panel and the bottom of the doors, is covered 1 time by GM. I don't have the TSB where I am at right now but I will post it when I get back to Dallas.
