A quick call to OnStar if equipped and subscribed to, would have taken care of it pretty fast. I'm not saying this happened in this case, but it amazes me how many people who pay for the service forget to use it when it's actually needed.
I did see the GM has a 90 day free trial offer going on Onstar if you purchased a used vehicle that has the capability. However; I do not subscribe. I know that it can be beneficial but, I am not a big fan of the big brother approach to safety.
60 bucks for an ignition key... no wonder my salesman tried to get out of giving me the 2 extra keys that was part of our deal. Don't ask..... 1 wife, 3 kids, 2 dogs.....4 may not be enough first the fobs then the keys.
I found those keys on Amazon for $13.00 and the fob for $40.00. After you buy the items you still must take them to your dealer and have them programed. Technology is a wonderful money maker for sure. Just not for the end user.
I feel your pain. I absolutely hate every aspect of the car trying to think for you, from the traction control to the door locks. I wish they made cars simple again. I love my Jeep with it's crank windows and non power locks, no ABS or ESC, traction control, etc.
I like the part about the guns...what were you shooting?

Dear roadblock69,
I have read your post about your 2009 Chevrolet Corvette with the module for the door. Did the replacement and the reflashing correct the situation?
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. I have found that very interesting.
Sincerely,
Michelle, Chevrolet Customer Service

My father inlaw lost his key for his truck out of state. We had one made local and sent it to him.
He didn't have to get it programed. If I recall he just had to put it in and turn it to start and then pull it out. Sorry this may not be correct as I forgot how he did it but there was no need for the dealer to program the key.
I think the dealer charged us $35 for the key and info on how to set the chip.

He may have had the original key too as I think the wife sent her dad the spare too. It was a 09 Sliverado.
