Service Air Bag?

My "Service Air Bag" light just came on. Am I stuck in having to take it to a Chevy dealer?

No, any reputable auto repair shop should be able to deal with it.

We can't advise you to tackle working on it yourself, as they can cause serious injury if you do not have suitable training.

I recall a TSB regarding a "Service Air Bag" light on certain year model HHR's.
Without the OP posting up the year of their HHR, can't tell you which direction to go with this.

Is your car in either of the airbag recalls? https://my.chevrolet.com/na-chevrolet/recalls

Did anybody do anything just before it came on?

Is anything heavy on the passenger seat?

I checked the recall and nothing for 2009 HHR's. It was at the dealers a week ago to have the 100,000 mile transmission service. I thought they might have screwed with it. I checked the fuses and then disconnected the battery for 30 min and things seem fine, but I haven't driven the car today.

I know the factory presets certain things to go off and force you to come in and pay their high prices for service. So we learn ways to bet their antics!

Thanks for the info :thumb:

No they don't, that's European cars.

Has your car been used in "extreme service" conditions? That is the only 100,000 mile transmission service in the Owner Manual.

Here is the thread for the '09 airbag recall https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/gm-r...-recall-53097/

Sorry, but GM does on the Corvette as well as Cadillac CTS V. I have had mine dyno tuned and won't let them touch the computers at all, but then again, they don't go to the dealer for service. I have had messages come up that I have had to clear. Mostly because I have already done the work before they tell you the car needs maintenance with a message, but the message still comes up at a given mileage. On the Corvette the computer messages can and do retard the performance of the car until the message is cleared. Not good driving it under those conditions, so I learned how to clear them myself.

Which doesn't mean that it doesn't have one, only that the dealer I went to didn't tell me about it, or it was already done to the car. When I check the above site, it said that there were no current recalls out on the 2009 HHR's
