I have the 2.4, with automatic transmission. I know that you need to depress the brake pedal, before you can shift from park into drive. When I depress the brake pedal I need to keep it depressed for a bout 5 seconds before the shifter will release from park. Has anyone else expericenced this? Is this normal for the HHR? It's nothing I can't live with, and no big deal. Just wondering if it's normal to all HHR's with auto transmissions.

 

I have the 2.2l, but I wouldnt think it'd make a difference. Mine is instant once I put a little bit of pressure.

 

I have not had any problems. I know if the switch is not all the way turned to the right it will keep you from moving from park to drive.

 

no problems either. How hard are you pressing on the petal. Sometimes if i dont press hard enough it wont let me out of park. Im used to a 5 speed where you just drop the ebrake and go.

I notice this too. If I let off the brake a little and then push on it again it will shift. Not quite sure what would cause this.

 

Not normal on any of the HHR's I've driven (a few). Take it to your dealer and have the safety interlock checked. I heard of one other instance where an HHR had a defective safety interlock, and changing it out cured the problem.

*Also, remember - if you start the HHR using the remote starter, it will not go into gear until the key is inserted and turned "on."

I had a problem with my shifter from time to time. It's a pedal pressure thing for sure. I put on an extra 25 pounds and solved the problem.


Just kidding. I do have a problem with it when I am tired and I have to put additional pressure on the pedal to shift. Sometimes I can't do it and my wife has to drive.

 

I have that problem sometimes but its because the button on the shifter didn't push all the way in..

 

That doesn't sound right to me either. I have an auto and I can shift as soon as I press the brake in.
