Smoker's Package???

I recently purchased what was advertised to be a Smoker's Package from an '08 HHR for my '07 consisting of the cup holder ashtray and push-in lighter.

Upon receipt, I tried inserting the lighter into the socket (otherwise used for 12V electrical doodads), but the lighter just slid right in and out again rather than fitting snugly so it can be pushed-in to pop-out when heated. It's as if there's supposed to be a second piece to the lighter assembly, a sleeve that fits inside the socket, even though auto power adapters seem to fit and work just as intended.

Has anyone else encountered this phenomenon when adding a smoker's package to their HHR?

Thanks!

Remmie.

My 06 HHR came with the cigarette lighter even though I didn't order the smoker's package. The lighter works fine and there is no extra "sleeve" that I can see.

It looks like there are two different lighter recepticles for the HHR, the standard part is listed as a "three terminal accessory port recepticle" with a cap.......the lighter recepticle is a different part, PN #12450043, I'd guess you need one of these to use your lighter plus the retainer without the cap PN #25749635.

I suppose in todays politically correct and "green" world they want to make it as difficult as possible for a person to drive and smoke at the same time.

I really must laugh at the very idea, of actually trying to flick your ashes into a "smokers package" coffee-cupholder ashtray, as it's hard enough to put a coffee cup in there. It might be easier to rub the ashes between your elbows.

My '06 came with a cigarette lighter, no ashtray.(I don't smoke). The lighter works in the 12V plug, which I use to power my Garmon GPS or to charge my cell phone. You can get a cup holder ashtray for <$5 and a lighter in any parts store for <$10.

RR,

Thanks indeed for ferreting-out all that info. That sure seems to falls into line with exactly what I'm experiencing, so it just HAS to be the answer. I REALLy appreciate you taking the time to dig all that up on my behalf.

Best,

Remmie.

(And thanks for also being relevant) :)

I did notice that it takes one hand to hold the lid open so you can flick with the other or it bites the end off.....

I don't smoke anyway..

My 07 came with the smoker's package, but I had already quit smoking a month prior. So, the lighter sits in the glovebox and the ashtray is used for spare change.

If you want my lighter, you are more than welcome to have it.
