Special order 2LT panel options
Special order 2LT panel options
I picked up my 2008 2LT Panel stick shift in Silverstone Metallic 3 weeks ago. I am loving it! I had to special order since I wanted the stick and 2.4 liter (only 2.4 auto on 1LT). What I did not want was the running boards and chrome package. I was hoping I could delete those items. It wasn't the money, I just didn't want those items. The dealer told me the 2LT package was just that, a package and they couldn't delete the chrome package or the running boards, telling me that I could probably purchase the color keyed door handles and grill and remove the chrome from the mirrors. I kinda felt they were giving me a line of crap. Can anyone confirm whether or not I had some choices of those items on a special order vehicle? Was my dealer just being lazy? I would love to know before I get to fill our their customer satisfaction survey.

Roy is correct. The 2lt comes standard with the bright chrome & the running boards. It's not like in the sixties when you could spec out a vehicle with the top of the line powertrain combinations & no other options. Today if you want the best engines, etc. you end up with packages giving you more than you want usually, just the way they do it now. I'm sure someone here with a new HHR with the satin parts would trade for the bright parts, the running boards are easy to sell/trade also. Someone here probably has a silverstone with standard rockers willing to trade + $ for running boards, too! Enjoy the new ride!

Wow, what rapid response. Thanks for the welcome I have already gotten a lot of info from this site. When I started shopping/searching for my panel, the dealer told me they did very few special orders. People must grab whatever happens to be on the lot. I just wanted to be sure they weren't simply being lazy about the whole thing. Car dealers haven't really given me that feeling of trust. I felt like I would be treated better if I were buying a $30k + Tahoe or Suburban. Besides, the idea of special ordering a vehicle should be about getting it just the way you want it. I got a lot more vehicle than I really like, but I got to admit some of the 2LT options are pretty nice. The 2.4l is nice and the Pioneer system is awesome along with the leather wrapped wheel and shift knob and driving lamps. I guess I can suffer through having those luxuries so I can get a stick shift with the big engine. The panel gets attention wherever I go and has a lot of practical utility.

Where were you 2 months ago? We opted for the 2LT to get the running boards and chrome. When we priced out the 1LT with those options, it just made sense to upgrade for a few more dollar. Just tell the dealer not to install the running boards and try to sell them here in the classifieds, and I'm sure you can find someone to trade their satin pieces for chrome. Enjoy!

There is no color-keyed grill unless you have it painted yourself. There are replacement aftermarket black mirror caps available that are paintable if you wish, and the door handles are easily replaceable. Alternatively, you could purchase black door handle covers for about $60 and have them painted as well. eBay is your friend, as well as our supporting vendors.
As far as the running boards, I did not want them either, but after I found out how bad the car gets sandblasted down the sides without them, I am glad I got them. Also, the look has really grown on me, and I now prefer the look of running boards vs. not having them. Also the boards really add to the retro feel of the car.
ENJOY!!!
