SS auto repair/upgrade options?

Looking down the barrel of dealing w/ SS auto trans problems. 2010, not much over 100K miles. Not tuned. Yet.

Wondered about the latest scuttlebutt on the availability of used trannies. Also alternatives to stock, and upgrades. It’s a nice car and a rebuild is not out of the question, but don’t want to decide without good info on options.

Already did a little searching here and will continue, but it’s a little overwhelming and of course availability changes with time.

Consider the solenoids

Pulp
What are you looking to to do?
Do you want the unit bullet proof or just do a simple rebuild to have it last 200K longer ?

Interesting question. Might be satisfied with a solution that would give the car a fighting chance at another 50-100K of occasional mild abuse to the tune of 290HP from GM Performance.

Would be thrilled to endow the car with a tranny that might give myself or a future owner additional options. But budgets! It might be worth an extra $500? Or $2000? Not much more than that, tho.

4T45E is one of the most used auto trans in the world. And one of the longest lasting. Junk yards are full of them. Just about all 4-6 cylinder GM cars this century.

100K is chump change, should go more than 500K with out sweating.

Huh. Thanks all for the insights. Good stuff. Will check out the solenoids.

the 4t45e is junk. Fairly common for them for fail shortly after 100k miles, there’s no upgraded parts available either.

But also op: I have an ss 4t45e for sale. 75k miles on it, only pulled because I went with an F23 instead

The 4T45E in Oldblue went 300,000 miles , and coulda gone farther possibly with a new solenoid or two.

I lost reverse and 1st at 90k in my g5, my aunt’s cobalt got scrapped because the transmission grenaded at 170000km, my gf’s mom had a base model auto hhr with a bad transmission that I never saw move under its own power. Don’t kid yourself the 4t45e is worse than the 4t65e
