SS Front Brakes on the LT and LS spare tire issue..

Upgrading the LT and LS to the front SS Brakes.

This is just a thought but having to go thru the BS of swapping a rear to a flat front tire may have a possible solution.
This I have not tried yet but it might work.
The Standard spare tire is a Compact T115/70R15 on a special narrow 15" wheel.

I did a little research and came up with what might be a possibility to upsize the spare tire and wheel so it would fit the LT and LS on all 4 corners after the upgrade.
Using a stock 16" steel wheel and a T125/70R16 tire ....
That's a bit of a stretch with the 16" wheel being 6.5" wide but it is just a spare.
The Only question is will it in fit the spare carrier area.

The T115/70R15 OEM Spare shows a diameter of 21.4"

The T125/70R16 shows a diameter of 21.9"

Thoughts .........

I am not aware of an issue with putting the spare on the front, except with the larger Brembo brakes.

That being said, not the best thing to have different size tires on the drive axle.

I’m comfortable swapping tires if I have to.

RJ,

1. Take a look back at some posts on the LT & LS brake upgrade. It involves the Standard SS brakes as well as the Brembo's.

Worth a try, but I think the OEM 16” steelies are to wide to fit the spare tire well and the tray to cover the battery and the spare.
But I still don’t like the thought of different tires on the steering / drive wheels

Blue,

Yes, the wheel width was my only concern. The spare cover and adjustable screw/ lock plate does have a little room to spare. Question would be, does it have enough? Also would the slightly larger tire fit all the way down in the spare opening or sit slightly higher.
I guess the only way to find out would be to put the T125/70R16 tire on a stock 16" wheel and see how it fits.

I do not understand why using the T125 tire would create a problem when either spare tire is smaller then an OEM 215/55R16 or 215/50/R17 tire that would be on the other side..
It would only be used as a Spare and used for a very short time either way.

It’s just that the first blowout flat I’ve had in 45 years , was at highway speeds on the Interstate on the way to Florida, the left rear picked up a piece of cable looked like from a tire bead about 2 feet long, I’m happy it wasn’t the front, but I still would have put the spare on the rear , in that situation.
Having Sweetie with a stop watch timing my pit stop and the Mother in Law standing at the side of the I 95 south bound at Hiltonhead exit in South Carolina was a touch stressful. And why do transport trucks not move over to give a guy space to work? The cars moved the truckers not so much!

Being stuck working on your car on a busy freeway scares the H--l out me.
In Idaho the speed limit is 70 mph and they go by you at that speed.
I see state patrol cars with their Blue lights flashing getting hit while giving a ticket or assistance.
I have probably seen 4 or so on TV in the last year.
It just Ain't Safe.

If you have a flat don’t worry about tearing up the flat, get off the highway as far as possible.

Especially on I-95 S into Fla. The truckers will mow you down.
