Stupid Move -COUNTER CLOCKWISE Harmonic balancer blues.

HELLO ALL ,

Super happy to be making my first post here
Ive been using this forum for years for info to keep up my old 2010 chevy hhr !

2.2 and im at 305k miles (im a delivery driver and i love my hhr )!

old pops has helped me with everything on it from motor mounts to flex pipes ... you named it he was able to help me

So to save my old dad from having to help i decided to give the ol harmonic balancer seal a try ..( as we took it off once to replace a seal longgggg ago)

Everything went great on removal or so i thought...

I made the mistake of turning the balancer counter clockwise

after CAREFULLY reading about not doing that Based of the research i did right on this very site ! (im a dummy i know!)

After i realized turning counter clockwise was a big big mistake and prob jumped a tooth in the chain i swallowed my pride and nervously called up old pops....

He told me whatever i do DONT START THE CAR ...!!!!

He will swing by and drop it in top dead center in the morning ....

im confident he will know what to do .... as he has been working on cars all his life .

im 35 and he is much older so im his go to guy for internet research as he is a lil older .

So i humbly ask the the powerful hhr fourm for any advice on what not to miss in order to smack the old hhr in tdc and fire it up and get back on the road !

I thank anyone who reads this and can help in advance .

just wanna get old pops back on the couch quick

also so he doesn't pull the ol look it up on google mid job !

Thank you !

Turn balancer CLOCKWISE and take it easy and it it gets hung up you are not going to hurt it if you don't force it. How far and how fast did you turn it counter wise? Did you feel or hear anything unusual? If not, you may not have jumped at all.

Cant tell you what a relief it is to hear a reply from anyone other than my dad about it!

I turned it about one revolution give or take .
I felt nothing out of the ordinary .

1 revolution is bad. You're going to have to take the harmonic balancer off, remove the timing cover, and reset the timing. You should reset the timing on the balance shaft chain as well.

You would be best served by replacing the timing sets, are they original?

One full revolution could have damaged the tensioner, bent a valve or 2.
best to just replace the timing and balance shaft chains

Cloyes 9-4201SX timing chain kit , just chain , guides and tensioner
Cloyes 9-4202SX balance shaft chain , just chain , guides and tensioner
install a Melling 5499 GMB front guide upper replacement bolt.
better to be safe then sorry, and no need to cry in the corner.

It's recommended to replace the harmonic balancer bolt with a new one.
